“I didn’t get the job!” Lidia a middle aged woman said in a low and depressed tone. “They were looking for 3 people and I was rejected. It hurt me so bad and now I have no self-confidence.” Lidia was at a loss on what to do. She had stopped job hunting (A BIG mistake). Sure it was a hard shock –rejection always hurts. But she was so paralyzed from the experience she wasn’t applying for other jobs. “I have taken a few online self-esteem classes and they aren’t helping me. I don’t know what to do. I’m so scared I’ll never be able to land a new job,” Lidia shared.
Maybe you have lost out on a good job you interviewed for. Bouncing back takes some resilience. And it can derail you. The first thing I told Lidia was to do some positive affirmations each morning. Behavioral Psychologist report that this technique takes 21 days to change the way your brain thinks. What you do is create a short paragraph of 5-7 sentences written in the first person as if they were true. Something like “Every interviewer who meets me loves me. I always get the job. Now I’m working in a great new position I love. I am well respected by my new boss and peers.” Now these sentences are spoken aloud and also written over and over again for the first 10 minutes when you wake up. After 21 days you will believe it to be true. That is not all. Here are a few more tips to turn your fail around so you can land the next job:
