84% of employers have their HR professionals and recruiters looking on social media sites to attract talent – particularly passive, already employed candidates, according to new research from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
While social media recruiting is just one tool used, there has been a very sharp increase in the last two years. Speaking to Elizabeth, a prominent Seattle-area recruiter, she said: “the marketplace is getting tighter. I used to get hundreds applying for one open position, now I’m maybe getting ten. I have no choice but to source for passive people on social media sites.”
Recruiters have the ability to target very specific groups of people, for instance a certain city or a certain skillset such as an MBA. According to the SHRM Survey, the websites used by the large employers are:
